Feeding Kids and Families in Reynosa’s Garbage Dump
April 27, 2021
For almost 10 years, we have been feeding 100 plus hungry kids in the Casa Hogar group home located in the border town of Reynosa, Mexico. Throughout the life of the group home, Elma, the director, would periodically take the kids to the garbage communities to share any extra donations that they received. But recently, the Lord has been calling her to do more.
The garbage communities are made up of people living in literal garbage dumps. For these people, the little income from recycling garbage and the free space for building simple shelters is their only way to have a “home”.
The families rummage through the trash every day to find items they can recycle and sell. Along with this physical hardship is the devastating mental and emotional toll of being ostracized. They are called “garbage rats”. But this is not what Jesus and their brothers and sisters in Christ call them. Through your support, we are helping with outreaches that provide food, clean clothes, shoes, warm meals for kids and adults, and, most importantly, the word of God, Bibles, and prayers. We are showing them that God in heaven loves and cares for them.
Thank you for being part of these outreaches. We have been entrusted to bring love and grace to the stigmatized and downcast. Well done Times Square Church family!
